The memcal (chip) is fitted in the PCM/ECU which is located behind the kick panel on the passenger side under the glove box.
First, either disconnect the battery or remove the engine fuse to remove power from the PCM/ECU. Simply remove the kick panel, remove the PCM from it's holder, remove the 2 screws holding the MEMCAL cover in place and remove the MEMCAL from the board**. On the later model PCMs the MEMCAL will pull straight out. On the earlier model ECU's there is a clip on each side of the MEMCAL, simply press both down together at the same time and the MEMCAL will push up and can then be removed.
Fitting is a reversal of the removal process, just ensure that the MEMCAL is aligned on the pins and push it down evenly. At this stage, reconnect the battery or refit the engine fuse and start the engine to ensure everything is working correctly. If everything is fine, refit the MEMCAL cover on the ECU/PCM, refit the ECU/PCM into its holder and refit the trim panel.
**Please take note of the direction of the Memcal installation, Take some digital photos if need be whilst you are removing it, as is essential that the Memcal be installed the right way. All though there are 3 small tabs on the link bar that make it difficult to install the wrong way, we have encountered some who have managed to do this & it does cause issues.
The right installation direction is essential for your Memcal to function as it should, so take care to observe which way you have pulled the stock one out, that is to match it's 3 small tabs on the link bar of the Memcal.
